TIME TO DO THIS CHALLENGE - 1 HOUR
Before you begin to compile a portfolio of evidence to address the standards you need to determine the exact requirements from your Teachers Registration Board. These may vary from state to state so it is imperative that you check your own state's requirements. The information will give you an idea about how much time you have to prepare your evidence and may determine the process you go through to ensure you have the evidence you require in time.
For example...
The following Statement comes from the TRBWA Guide to Evidencing the Professional Standards at the Proficient Level. Your own State Registration Board will have a similar statement. Use the links on the Teacher Registration page to go to your State TRB.
Eligibility
To meet the Professional Standards at the Proficient Level, it is a requirement that a teacher has taught for a minimum period of 100 days in one or more Western Australian educational venues or other Australian or New Zealand schools in the 5 years prior to the application.
Assessment
A determination by the TRBWA of whether the Professional Standards (Proficient Level) have been met is based on a recommendation from the school or workplace that the teacher has satisfied all the Standards.
The recommendation is made by way of a supporting declaration from an appropriate person.
Submitting Evidence
Applicants are not required to submit documentary evidence to the TRBWA at the time of applying for Full Registration. However, the TRBWA may audit a sample of applications to verify evidence and applicants may, in the event, be asked to submit their evidence before registration is granted.
Evidence
Evidence presented by a teacher seeking Full Registration should cover a broad scope of the teacher’s knowledge, practice and engagement. Supporting evidence must take into account all of the focus areas and level descriptors under each of the seven standards. A determination of whether an applicant has met the Professional Standards will generally be based on the declarations contained in the application. Those making the declaration must be satisfied that the Standards have been met to the Proficient Level.
THE TASK
STEP ONE
Watch the video below to get an idea of the various parts of the accreditation process.
STEP TWO
Go to your own TRB website, login and establish for yourself:
STEP THREE
Once you have identified your State's requirements post what you know about your TRB on the blog below (if nothing has been posted). Some posts from the last Challenge have already been added so you may want to check and see if there is something for your state.
STEP FOUR
Determine the time frame you have for collecting the relevant evidence against the standards and whether you have accrued enough teaching and professional learning hours. If you have not this will be something you will need to strategically plan for before your registration due date.
